I’ve finally come to the light, as many might say because of my recent change from PC to Mac. Apparently, 50% of bloggers use Macs.
I’ve done tons of research over the past few days about how to move from PC to Mac (yes, I’ve also been keeping up with my paper writing). At times, reminding myself to remain focused and to not get carried away with all the excitement surrounding my new Macbook.
I’ve also read a lot of discussions about Mac blog editors. The best thing to do is mess around with various editors to discover which suits you. Don’t easily rely on what others say, experience it before buying.
Apparently, these are the top three blog editors:
- Blogo
- MarsEdit 2
- Ecto
As a PC user, I used Windows Live Writer as much as anything else on that amazing HP. Writer is simple, easy to use and excellent with pictures. I read that some folks run parallel windows programs on their Macs just to keep WLW-the same will not be said of me.
Sorry Live Writer, this is where we depart. Back to migrating from PC to Mac.
- Wireless Network. Takes some know how- if you’ve been attempted to transfer files over a network, this is not for you. On the other hand, if you know what you’re doing this can be the fastest and easiest route. Especially, if you can access to your schools T1 network.
- Third Party Tools. Don’t pay for nothing, I don’t care how easy they might it look. Not worth it- learn something new or ask a friend for help (maybe you might pay them instead).
- External Hard Drive. Ye yes, since I invested in one long ago (if you’ve lived through PC hard drive crashes- you know what I mean), this was by far the best option for me. Especially helpful when you have a huge iTunes library.
- Flash Drive. This could also be useful if you don’t have much you need to transfer to your new Mac. I’ve seen some 8GB jump drives out there so this might suit your situation.
- Online Storage. In my case, I have a Mobile Me account (20 GB) of online space so I also stored my important docs there. I also have an account with Carbonite. There’s plenty of online storage options available. Google it.
During this time of transition, which includes research, reading reviews, asking questions (on Twitter, blogs, etc.) and digging up answers the old fashion way- Google search.
The content for the post comes out of trial and error, from playing in the dirt sort of speak.
Final Thoughts & Questions
To Windows Live Writer’s credit, the way it handles pictures is second to none. What blog editing tools have you tried? (Mac or PC users) Lastly, WLW is still my favorite, at least for now- and it’s FREE!

Hi, you’ve been MIA for a while.
So, you are now a MAC user? Wow. I doubt that I could make the switch. So many things are simpler on PC. Besides, I work with a lot of software programs, and I have a fear of compatibility. AND I’d have to buy Mac licenses for some programs. So it’d be an expensive switch.
As for a blog editing tools, I have not used any… But upon your glowing endorsement, I have just downloaded/installed Windows Live Writer to give it a go.

Hey Shirley
One of my favorite features WLR is its ability to easily change pictures. Priceless. Let me know how it works out for you.

Yay! Welcome to Macworld where everything is shiny. If that reads sarcastic, it’s totally not. I LOVE my Mac with an unhealthy affection. You made a great choice. Good job!

I can honestly say that having a Mac has improved just about everything I do online (even made cramming easier). It took me about a year to switch (and save up) for one, but it was soooo worth it when I bought it.
Have fun with it man.

Alex,
Hey man, thanks for visiting. Yeah, there’s not a day that goes by when I ask myself what took me so long?
If you don’t mind, what mac apps do you use most? Thanks in advance for sharing.

I don’t have any blogging editors (I used to use Ecto, but I just prefer to write in WordPress). But my favorite apps are:
Coda
Photoshop
Grabup (grabup.com)
Twitteriffic
TextMate
Adium
FireFox
Sticky Windows
Have fun with your Mac bro.

I need to wait a while to get a Mac because I don’t have the money, but I was wondering what some of your top reasons for getting a Mac are. I researched them on Apple.com and I wasn’t really convinced.
