About two months back, I decided it was time to build new habits. Waking up early to be productive, tackle daily MITs, and continue building up a particular skill set or hobby related to goals for that week/month/year. Everything started okay but when I started taking Hebrew courses (fours hours of class: Monday-Friday), that went out the window.
Stay with me, not all is lost. And some good did come out of my experiment. I tend to pass out sooner, and staying awake late to study is hard. I’m not up by 4:30 but 6:30-7:00 AM is just fine. Even when plans don’t go your way, sometimes other unexpected things might.
My running is still going strong- six months of consistent running and my weight is down to 175 (from 186). It seems that I made it through Hebrew I and with II beginning next Tuesday, breathing room is nice.
Regrouping is a must. I’m not sure what’s in store beside continuing my running. If hitting up the gym doesn’t happen, then I need to restart the Perfect Push Up exercises. I’ve been doing pull-ups with a rope that hangs from the ceiling of DoubleShot (local coffeeshop). I’ve worked up to a set of 10, plus 4 reps of negatives.
One significant takeaway for me, you must have clear plan and purpose day before you attempt to climb out of the bed can’t be stressed enough. Don’t take it for granted. If you’re still having trouble, try to make the process fun and exciting. Also, it could help if the habits relate to personal long term goals.
For example, don’t get up at 5 AM to check email, instead, you could be completing a Photoshop tutorial. Or possibly the next chapter of that book you’re reading about better writing. Or maybe you’re really benefiting from a Podcast on improving your grammar. If you’re a blogger, try to focus on content creation and topics. Stay clear of social media sites, at least until later. When I was going strong, I was slowly completing more of those things I’m passion about.
No one climbs out of the bed in the AM to do something they’re not passionate about. Make it valuable, make it count.
If you’re a student, maybe that time could be used for review or for last minute cramming. Focus on your priorites as they relate to those big picture goals (or even monthy goals).
