Miguel’s Story pt 2

2003- 2008 The University Experience

I earned a BA is in New Testament studies, that’s right folks- Theology. History should also be included,  studying theology includes a survey of history.

A theology degree, an academic degree which presents numerous challenges, is tough because of the writing and reading required.

The student’s success is measured in their writing and research skills. What are team building skills?

It’s all writing- team projects were normally not considered. Of course, there were a few exceptions but the responsibility rests on the individual.

While in college, especially the first two years, I struggled. I realized an ocean size of a difference between high school and a university; what it actually took to be a successful college student was beyond my reach.

I knew hard work was a head. By the time my 3rd year came around, I was confident in my writing skills and study habits.

Professors took notice, my writing skills and grades began to climb. As a result, my confidence grew! Hard work was now paying off and I really believed in myself. Momentum kept building, it felt like running downhill.

My general courses at times were a drag. Most of my top grades came in pretty much all of the Theology courses. I’ve spent the past 5 1/2 years now studying Theology.

After College I enrolled in Graduate School. You guessed it, more theology! The plan is to complete my MA as quickly as possible; apply at another school, more theology you ask?

No, not yet at least. I’m considering journalism degree or new media writing degree.

I don’t know if I can settle for a 9-5 job- an entrepreneurs spirit, I’m told, burns within me.

My Blogging History-  Fresh, Exciting and Rewarding!

About 10 months ago I hit the blogosphere using a free hosted blog at WordPress dot com. I wanted to write a multi-topic blog.

I can’t quite remember how I was exposed to blogging. One thing I’m sure of, I can give some credit to Del.icio.us. This bookmarking site changed my life! My fiancé’s brother introduced me to Delicious, so he deserves some of the blame as well.

Take a look at my first blog, it covered various topics like health, productivity, fitness and blogging tips: It was first called the “Pursuit of Excellence,” later changed to Blog Excellence.

In six months it climbed the Technorati ranking to around the 200,000 mark! That’s not bad considering almost 120,000 blogs are created daily. Take into account the number of blogs in the blogosphere.

I decided to buy my own domain name for a health and fitness site. It’s called Beyond A Diet. For me, writing about fitness and exercise topics came easy, it still does. I joined multiple bloggers for fitness online communities.

The contacts, friendships and growth gained made that time worth every moment invested.

At some point during my third month of blogging, I discovered a training called 16 Steps to success taught by a guy named Sam Clark from The Authority Site Center.

I eventually joined the Authority Site Center, one of the blogosphere’s top blog coaching/mentoring training programs. They taught me about adding value to the blogosphere, and how important it was for me to tune into the various conversations happening in my blogging niche.

The lessons learned have been priceless.

Their 2oo plus collection of training videos continues to be helpful. Some time between my third and four month of blogging I was asked to guest post.

I continued to grow and leave my print on the blogosphere. Around the same time I met Mert from Search for Blogging. I don’t remember how I discovered his site. Our friendship blossomed, today- Mert is a friend and blogging mentor.

Stay tuned for part 3 of my timeline.
