Over at Thou Shall Blog, we asked the community to give us their (opinions) definitions of a successful blogger. Here’s a list of 10 perspectives on “what it means to be a successful blogger.” In no particular order.
- A successful blogger in my opinion is someone who achieve what he wants on his blog regardless if he makes money or not as long as he loves what he does and someone who finds satisfaction and readers find the blog interesting and useful. -Kramer
- A successful blogger depends on the goals of the blogger. If the blogger can reach those goals, I would call it a success.I think loyal followers is a success either way! I am still trying to get there and it can be a challenge. So, if you can gain loyal, supportive followers, you must be doing something right and THAT is a success!! – Julie M
- I think it’s up to the blogger as to whether or not their blog is successful. Like, I wouldn’t believe someone if they said my blog was unsuccessful, because if I can look at my blog and love what I have created then I say that is successful. – Alex
- For my context of ’successful blogger’, he/she should have the ability of providing quality contents, to gain trusts from the readers & authority for his/her niche. Then the rest about traffic, commenters etc would be the next best thing for the blog. – Ching Ya
- I believe a successful blogger is one who gets what she or he wants from blogging – one who knows what their goals are and is working towards them. I don’t believe that I have to have already met my goals to be successful – whenever I achieve goals I set new ones anyway! I certainly don’t think money defines success.- Ricky
- A successful blogger is someone who gets what he or she wants out of the blogging experience. That may be money; that may be notoriety; that may be interaction with other people; that may be an ability to sound off a topic of interest … Whatever your goal is — if you achieve it through blogging, you are successful. – Gina Chen
- A successful blogger is a person who has many loyal readers who swear by the content on the blog. – Fas
- I think a successful blogger is one that makes a difference, whether by giving advice, helping others build their sites, or even just giving a feel good laugh to readers. Basically, if a blogger gives something of value to their readers, that makes them successful. ~ Kristi
- A successful blogger is someone that can make a financial living off his blog. I look at it solely from a capitalist point of view. But the fact is, you can’t make any money unless you have a loyal following of readers, provide great information, and high traffic. But the definition of ultimate success from a blog in the end, in my opinion, is the money. – Robby G
- A successful blogger is someone who doesn’t quit trying. That person will learn through many mistakes that the person will encounter throughout his or her blogging career. A successful blogger does not necessarily mean the person makes a million dollars per day or have millions of RSS feed subscribers. A successful blogger takes on every challenge, and finds ways to get through obstacles. – Kai Lo

I really like Kristi’s take on what a successful blogger is. I suppose it’s sort of like asking someone to define beauty and coming up with the answer that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. People’s interpretation of a successful blogger also depend on the individual reader.

Sire,
Wuz up man? Good to see ya, glad you got anything running with your theme selection.
I agree, every person has a set of different lens on, meaning- their perceptions including outlook of things will be different from one to the next. I like how you got your Top commentators in the footer. The site is looking smooth… thanks for swing by!
-Mig
Yeah, I figured the footer was the best place for it as those who want to see it can scroll to the bottom, and maybe see something interesting along the way
It also frees up space for ads .

Very inspirational. Becoming a successful blogger is really what you think is successful. Everyone has their own idea of what becoming successful is.

Hey Teenwebguru,
oh yeah, right on… I agree, success looks different from person to person.
Thanks again for visiting and commenting.

I agree that success totally depends on the person, but overall I think a successful blogger should be made happy by his or her blog. I’m pretty new to the blogging world, but it has become one of my absolute favorite things to do. I don’t have a ton of readers or receive a million comments and I certainly don’t get paid for my blog, but I LOVE doing it. To me, success should be about doing what you love.

I went to visit your blog and I still don’t know your name? So, what’s your name?
Please share.
How might people’s lives be different if they took on this attitude? Normally, people define themselves as a failure because their to busy comparing themselves to others, and fail to realize that they continue to fail because they’re not that person and can never be.
This reminds me of what a professor once told me, “your degree is what you make of it not where you study.” Thanks Dr Shelton!

the most important thing is how the blogger share his/her knowledge to the readers

Alex | Blogussion.com’s last blog post..Dealing With Blogging Challenges You Just Don’t See Coming
Alex,
You’re welcome, in addressing your question… I guess it depends on by who’s standards or definition?
Seriously, I like to think so but only to the extent of my determination, goals I set and fulfill, along with the respect and value placed on my work; certainly, other factors play in to the overall picture.
Yes, being considered a success during certain moments in ones life because of accomplishments is one thing. But if we stop seeking, growing, learning, earning and avoid finding ways to challenge ourselves, what is that called? I think we cease to continue creating meaning and value for ourselves and others, which is interconnected to that success factor.
That’s a nice list buddy ..I am also regular follower of ching ya
Hey Sham,
Glad ya like it! Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Nice collection..
For me, a successful blogger is a person who create their own unique style of writing and achieve their own target.. He/she keep on writing without copying others style even he/she get criticized.
Hey Poorblogger,
Thanks, ye yes being unique and different is essential if anyone plans on standing out in the crowd and the masses that fill just about every niche possible. Hopefully, each individual has something different to offer.
Nice list, i guess every individual has his/her own definition of success… whether its a blog or something else, as long as you are happy doing it, you have the passion on doing it… you are successfull! Every article is a learning tool for anyone, whether its a success or not…
I like this list and really enjoyed reading it. I am glad I followed Ching Ya’s link to here.
I am glad to have read that many people equate a successful blog with ones own definition, not the amount of money or comments one gets. That resonates with me the most, because money can always be made and people come and go, but in the end how we personally feel about ourselves, our blogs or our success matters the most.
